About our Farm

Jim and Melissa began farming in 1995 and they have been “growing” ever since!  They started with 2 greenhouses and 25 acres for vegetables and chickens.  That year they sold all their produce whole sale, but because of a severe drought, they lost most of the crops and had their worst year ever.  Jim and Melissa didn’t give up on their dreams.  In January 1996 their son, Dayton, was born. They acquired an orchard. And, in May they began their first NYC markets at Columbus Circle and Petrosino Park. That July, Jim and Melissa entered Greenmarket.  Jim and Melissa started at Tompkins Square Park and City Hall.  In May of 1997, they entered a local farmers market in Saratoga Springs on Wednesdays.  In June of 1998 their daughter, Courtney, was born and they also joined the Saturday market in Saratoga.  That same year they added beef cows and pigs.  In 1999, the farm had expanded to 50 acres and joined the market at Columbia University.  Raising the kids, tending to the greenhouses, crops, and animals and attending markets did not leave for many dull moments.  Over the years more land was purchased, more greenhouses were built and, in 2006, they purchased the farm stand in Cambridge.  Presently, the farm has grown to 300 acres and back to only 6 greenhouses.  The “kids” are grown, but Jim and Melissa are still “growing” and always looking forward to a new season.
